In my previous post, I shared some of my UX ideas with you, dear readers. As I see, you liked them. So, it’s time to share more UX ideas with you 💡

Today I will write my ideas about tasks state icons, how we can play with action names, and the most interesting — concept you can use for your next blog platform!

Product Tips #9

👉 Tasks state icons

If you work with tasks, or your product works with tasks, consider adding the following states: Open, Pending, In Progress, Completed, and Cancelled. But, most importantly, don't forget to add corresponding icons to them.

Think about colours for the icons as something that continue the idea of a specific task status. For example, a grey circle is suitable for something that has been created recently. Or, a yellow icon with a clock is suitable for tasks in pending.

👉 Play with action names

First, try playing with action names on your product. Why not replace “Select Assignee” with “Set Assignee”?

Second, why not add icons left to action names? It can be an icon with a group of people before the text “Set Assignee”.

Third, add an icon in the search field and display userpics before the user names. Userpics will increase the speed of recognizing other users.

👉 Blog concept

It would be especially good if your entire product is a blogging platform like Medium but would be also ok if you have your blog on a separate subdomain.

Ok, so, try to make your blog’s background colour similar to one of the colours in the example below. Use only this one colour + black colour throughout the whole platform. So, you have only two primary colours. Buttons, icons, and forms also should follow the rule. Choose a suitable font.

Blog concept

Such an approach will force your users to concentrate on the most important thing — your content. By the way, try adding the ability for users to switch/choose the background colour. But don’t provide lots of options. A maximum of three is enough.

Catch the colours: #F7C7B9, #85C7C8, #7A9E7B.
